Topic 1: The Role and Importance of Nurses in Fighting COVID-19

Speaker’s Biography:

Dr. Chang Shu-Chen (Susan)

Nursing Director of Changhua Christian Hospital

Dr. Chang Shu-Chen (Susan) has been the Nursing Director of Changhua Christian Hospital for almost 20 years (since 2002). She received her Master’s Degree in Community Health Nursing at the University of Michigan and finished a Ph.D. Degree in Nursing at Kaohsiung Medical University. Susan is also one of the Directors of the Taiwan Nurses Association (TWNA) which is the most influential nursing association in Taiwan. Not only in charge of the daily routine in hospital, in the meantime, she’s also an instructor in colleges and universities, sharing her experiences and cultivating more outstanding nursing staffs.

No one can deny that nurses are the most essential part of the front lines of the battle against COVID-19. What is the scenery that would be seen by the nurses who work on the front lines? As the Nursing Director, in this session, Susan will introduce how CCH taking care of the COVID-19 patients with the highest standard of prevention for potential nosocomial and treatment so that all the COVID-19 patients in CCH has been discharged now. Moreover, Susan will reveal how the nursing department collaborates with other departments of CCH in response to COVID-19 including preparing for PPE and management of TOCC for visitors and caregivers.

Dr. Sasamon Srisuthisak currently is the Nursing Technical Officer of Nursing Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, MOPH. She received her Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. She has the research experiences in “The Effectiveness of Thailand Global HEARTS Package through Multi-sectoral Collaboration on Healthy Lifestyle and Blood Pressure Control among Hypertensive Patients in Thailand.

In this session, Dr. Srisuthisak is going to share the role and response of the nurses as an organization, individual healthcare provider, and country leader. What’s the knowledge and skills need to be prepared and what are the key factors for successfully coordinated different sectors to manage the epidemic.
